    When the Occasion Changes You

Some occasions during our lifetime are about celebrating what has happened.

A milestone birthday. A retirement. A significant career achievement. Becoming a grandmother. A new chapter in your life.

But sometimes, an occasion does something else. It makes you stop.

And for a moment, you look around and realise: I'm not the woman I was.

And perhaps that's not something we talk about enough.

Women are very good at moving forward.

There is always something that needs doing. Someone who needs us. Another milestone to organise. Another person to celebrate.

So when an occasion comes along that is entirely about marking a significant moment in our own lives, it can feel surprisingly unfamiliar to simply pause.

But perhaps we should give ourselves permission to do exactly that. To pause.

Not because we are unhappy with where we are. Not because we want to go back. And certainly not because we need to reinvent ourselves.

Simply to recognise how much has changed. Think about who you were ten, twenty or thirty years ago. The things that mattered to you then may not matter in quite the same way now.

Your priorities may have changed. Your relationships may have changed. Your career may have changed. Your family may have grown and changed around you.

And somewhere along the way, you changed too. Perhaps you're more comfortable with yourself now. Perhaps you know what you like—and what you don't. Perhaps you have become less concerned about what other people think. Perhaps you've discovered that confidence doesn't come from having everything figured out. It comes from knowing yourself a little better.

    That is something worth celebrating.

Because getting older isn't simply about adding another year. It is about accumulating experience. Changing your perspective. And sometimes a milestone gives us permission to acknowledge all of that.

A 60th birthday isn't just a number. Retirement isn't simply the end of a working life. Becoming a grandmother isn't just a new title. These moments can mark the beginning of a different chapter. And different doesn't mean less.

It can mean more. More clarity. More confidence. More willingness to choose what feels right for you.

Perhaps that's why what we wear for these occasions can feel so personal.

You may no longer want to dress like the woman you were twenty years ago.

And why would you? You aren't her anymore. You are you, now. And there is something quietly powerful about being comfortable with that.

So when your next milestone arrives, give yourself permission to pause and look forward. Not wondering who you should become, but with confidence in who you already are.

You don't need to become someone else to celebrate where you've arrived.

You simply need to give yourself permission to be you.
