  • Why So Many Women Feel Invisible When Shopping After 45

Karella dark navy beaded midi dress from Lois & Co's Trellis Lane Collection

There is a moment many women describe to me when shopping after 45.

Not dramatic. Not obvious. Just a quiet shift.

They walk into a store and something feels… different.

The clothes are still there. The racks are still full. The music is still playing.

But something about the experience no longer feels familiar.

It’s as though they’ve become less visible to the places that once felt designed for them. Most women don’t say this out loud at first.

    They’ll say things like:
    “I just couldn’t find anything.”
    “Nothing seemed right.”
    “I felt overwhelmed and left.”

But underneath those words is something deeper.

A sense of not being the focus anymore. Not being considered in the design, the fit, the styling, or even the way clothes are presented.

And it’s not about age in the way people assume. It’s about relevance.

As women move through their 40s, 50s and beyond, their bodies, lifestyles and priorities shift.

But much of the fashion industry doesn’t shift with them.

So they are left navigating collections that feel either:
    - too young,
    - too revealing,
    - too trend-driven,
    - or simply not aligned with how they want to feel anymore.

Most women I speak to aren’t trying to look younger. They’re trying to feel like themselves again.

But when nothing in the store reflects that version of them, something subtle happens.

Confidence starts to erode. Not all at once. Slowly.

In small moments in change rooms and mirrors and fitting rooms where nothing quite feels right.

And this is where I believe the real issue lies.

It’s not that women become invisible. It’s that the industry stops recognising them clearly.

At Lois & Co, we see something different every day.

The moment a woman finds the right outfit, everything changes.
    - She stands differently.
    - She looks differently at herself.
    - She stops adjusting and questioning and starts simply… being.

That is not about clothing. That is about recognition.
Because every woman deserves to walk into a space and feel like she is still being designed for. Not overlooked. Not accommodated.

    But understood.
